More Good News from Japan

March 30, 2017

Following hot on the heels of a Provincial High Court overturning an injunction against two reactor restarts, is the decision by another Japanese Court, in favour of a utility company. The Hiroshima District Court has denied an injunction against Shikoku Electric Power Co's Ikata No. 3 nuclear reactor.

This is more important than ensuring the continued operation of this single reactor (which has been running since last August). It strikes a serious blow to the approach that nuclear opponents have been using to delay Japan’s return to widescale nuclear energy. An article published by Reuters has pointed out that the ruling is similar to that issued by the High Court earlier this week, which to my mind suggests that Japan’s courts could be starting to form a consensus regarding nuclear restarts. If that’s the case, it’s good news for all of us in the uranium sector.
